Thank you for applying to judge contests and tryouts for American Dance/Drill
Team®. We are pleased to have those who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic
to become a part of our adjudication staff. After reviewing your application,
we will notify you if you have been selected to be added to our tryout judges
list. If you are selected, your name will appear on our judges list that we
send upon request to directors wanting qualified judges for their tryouts.
You will be contacted directly by the hostess director or principal if needed
to judge. It will be up to you to maintain contact with the director regarding fees, time and date of tryouts and fees paid by their school.
These fees and arrangements are not made directly through our office.
We will also be selecting staff that will judge for contests. If you are
selected to judge contests, you will receive a list of contest dates in the
fall to indicate the weekends and contests where you are available to judge.
As of January 1, 1999, a new policy has been implemented for first time
judges. You will be required to volunteer as a judges apprentice for one contest (one day) and take time to learn the methodology and philosophy of
judging at an ADTS® contest. A minimum of 8 hours will need to be volunteered in order for you to be eligible to be added as a permanent part
of our adjudication staff for contests. Judges will need to be positive, upbeat, and knowledgeable of the subject area (ex., solos, ensembles, team
events -- various areas). Judges are required to do oral comments on USB flash drives as well as written comments and scores. Assignments are
generally made to the areas where you have the most expertise (ex., Jazz, Kick, Novelty, or solos.)
Judges will provide their own contest attire. The uniform criteria is black tops/shirts and black pants. For women, you are more then welcome to accent your attire with red accents. We do place a 1 inch heel maximum on all shoes. With the judges climbing in out and out of the bleachers and for the awards presentation, we want to prevent any accidents or occurances happening with high heels being the cause. It is our desire to present a unified professional look as well as offer comfort and simplicity for staff contest attire.
If you are judging or volunteering (first time apprentice) for contests,
you will be provided travel, lodging and food for the event. Mileage is paid
for over 50 miles one way and all air fares are paid. No airport parking is
paid. Contest judges pay varies from $100 to $300 per contest based on judging experience, the length and size of the contest, as well as if it is
one or two days.
If you are interested in becoming a part of the ADTS®
Adjudication Staff, please fill out the judging application in this packet.
To be considered for the ADTS® contest adjudication staff, we must
receive your application by November
1st. If you have any
questions regarding judging, please feel free to contact our office. We look
forward to receiving your application.
